Hyjal Summit | 1st Look

224216.jpg

After months and months of SSC/TK & finally downing Kael’thas, our guild decided to enter Hyjal Summit. I have to say, it is a welcome relief to the drip drip drip of Serpenshrine and the 1-shot wipes of Tempest Keep.

The waves and waves of gauntlets are really fun (even though I love the Horde side with Thrall more than Jaina Proudmoore’s side). We were able to get jiggy with Rage Winterchill and Anetheron. Our first ever kills of these two.

Rage Winterchill

Totems:

  • Windfury
  • Healing Stream
  • Frost Resistance Totem
  • Strength of Earth

Still trying to work my way around this boss and learn from some mistakes, 1108 dps and 5th overall.

Anetheron

First time for all of us vs. the Vampric Aura boss. We faired well against the trash wave leading up to him, but when the fight vs. boss came up down we had some new things to learn.

I died ūüė¶ and I had some trouble with Sleep debuf, in fact, I got more sleepy time than anyone else.

All-in-all, I got lots of fun to get some Swings at this boss and we all learned a lot.

I don’t know if this ever happened before in the history of drops: we had both Molten Fury fist drops.

More next week.

Badjers of Justice

boj.jpg

Badges of Justice, the new economy will be here soon. Pokemon… gotta catch ’em all fever is nearly here. Patch 2.4 is coming soon, the download is already upon us all. So I ask ye of little hope, what benefits are you going to first grab up?

For the enhancement shaman, I wholeheartedly look forward to the the Vanir’s Right Fist of Brutality for a main-hand upgrade. Right?

mount014424.jpg

Based on my little poor-man’s EJ calculations my current Dragonstrike main-hand weapon value for enhancement shamans is 970.1 EP. The Vanir’s Right Fist of Pwnage! is more than a tier upgrade at 1015.4 EP. Heck, the Big Bad Wolf’s Paw (834.6) to Decapitator (912.8) upgrade is 78.2 EP points. The Vanir’s Right Fist of Brutality (1015.4) vs. Dragonstrike (970.1) is a whopping 45 EP points. Ohh. That’s not too much of a change.

Ouch. I was hoping for more when cashing in my Badger tokens. 105 BoJ for a 45 EP upgrade. Hmmm. An upgrade is an upgrade, isn’t it?

Twisting Totems

2337450.jpg

As we fumbled around with Al’ar for a day or so, we got our act together for another lead up to Kael’thas Sunstrider. We’re working on him now, and boy-o-boy is that phase 3 a tough one. Here’s a review of my battle with Al’ar.
Group:

  • Warrior (protection)
  • Druid (feral)
  • Rogue
  • Rogue
  • Shaman

Totems:

  • Windfury & Grace of Air Totems
  • Mana Spring Totem
  • Strength of Earth Totem

I also dropped Wrath of Air for the beginning of the fight so I could hurl better bolts of lightning at Al’ar. Before the Embers of Al’ar adds start coming, I just try to range damage the boss for a few moments before the melee hilarity begins. When the adds get to about 30% health, I run away from them and do more range lightning bolts so I don’t get punted from the death of the Embers by standing close to the adds.

This Al’ar battle I decided to use both Windfury & Grace of Air totems to show what happens when you twist totems. It’s easy and as long as you have plenty of mana regeneration (through Shamanistic Rage or Water Shield or both), it can be done during a long 10 minute fight. I do twist totems from time to time, but I wanted to record this fight and show you how it worked.

How to twist totems?

  • Step 1: macro this and click it once at the beginning of the fight.

/castsequence reset=8 [combat] Windfury Totem, Grace of Air Totem

  • Step 2: wait for a pulse so all the weapons of your party members get the weapon imbue (Windfury 5).
  • Step 3: macro again to drop Grace of Air
  • Step 4: count to 8 (repeat w/Step 1)

If you have Deadly Boss Mods addon, there is a nice timer to remind you to re-apply the Twist.

/castsequence reset=8 Windfury Totem, Grace of Air Totem
/dbm timer 00:08 Twist

I managed to get 700 dps and ranked 8th in damage output. I need to find out what I can improve for next time.  So I read the stats report.

alardead.jpg

My summary of the fight stats below:

alarasirae.jpg

Post combat analysis key indicators:

  • White damage: 39%
  • White damage crit: 38%
  • Windfury: 29%
  • Windfury crit: 37%
  • White Damage Miss rate: 22.7%

Overall, my output was mediocre and now I see that my miss rate was well above what I would normally like: 22.7% is a lot of misses. My +hit was a little over 100, so I can bump that up to +190 for the next round with Al’ar. Also, it seems my crit% is good, but I need more Attack Power. I hover around 2000 attack power, but I’ll need to gain more AP and less crit as we move into Mount Hyjal and Black Temple.

alardebuffsbuffslist.jpg

And thanks to Ashuna for this clarification on my Miss %. There were some parried attacks from Al’ar, mostly because the Flame Patches were just behind the big bird, so I could only melee from the front area near his beak.¬† I was forced to fight this way until either the Flame Patches subsided or the tank re-positioned Al’ar to move so melee could attack from behind the tail-feathers.

See this pic below for the Overall miss % | Block % | Parry % | Dodge % rates.

Overall miss: 22.7%
Miss: 12%
Block: 0 %
Parry: 4%
Dodge: 5%

missesdetails.jpg

Judgement of Wisdom helped me get mana back so I could keep twisting totems for Windfury and Grace of Air.¬†¬† Ok.¬† Fair enough, JoW 814 mana ain’t all that much, but it’s better than nothing.¬† Shamanistic Rage gave back the most w/ 9,920 mana, Mana Spring Totem next with 4,380 mana.

Totem Twisting & Buffs Summary

twistsummary2.jpg

Unfortunately, one rogue in my group died a bit early on (49% presence during fight). Warriors just love Windfury. See the warrior here got heaps of extra Windfury attacks: 29! The feral druid only gained additional Agility and Unleashed Rage, but nothing from Windfury Totem.

All group members details in pic below:

Next up: more Kael’thas attempts. We are working on perfecting each phase, so it may take another week or two to get it right.

Nalorakk, Akil’zon, Halazzi

Ventured into Amani troll lands today with the uber raiders from our guild.¬† With two of the best druids around for tanks, we downed the 1st three bosses Nalorakk, Akil’zon and Halazzi.¬†

 Raiders:

  • Druid Feral
  • Druid Feral
  • Rogue
  • Fury Warrior
  • Shaman enhance (me!)
  • Hunter
  • Shaman resto
  • Mage
  • Paladin holy
  • Paladin holy
  • Priest holy/disc

The blue colored raiders above were in my group, so party buffs were Windfury, Strength of Earth, Mana spring and sometimes Searing Totems.

Nalorakk

Interesting note on Nalorakk: we wiped on the 1st attempt when the bear tanks in my party had more Agility from Grace of Air totems, but our DPS was a little behind … in fact we didn’t make it to the 10 minute timer.¬† On the 2nd attempt (without the trash mobs in front of Nalorakk on this try), I used Windfury exclusively and the fury warrior and rogue in my group did some major damage output.¬† In fact, it only took us a little over 5 minutes to down the bear avatar with Windfury and extra effort fom everyone.¬† My miss rate was 18%.¬† WWS reported 101% dps uptime from our rogue.¬† Thanks WWS ūüôā

Drop:

shouldersa.jpg

ppf.jpg

¬†Akil’zon

Melee have it nice on this fight.¬† Our strategy was more centered for the lightning storms, so it was a quick hop to the lightning storm focus area and easy to run back for melee output.¬† You think wowwebstats.com might be able to correct it’s calculations, rogue at 101% dps time.¬† Nice for ole sneaky sneak rogue.¬† My miss rate was at 18%.

Oh yeah!¬† Exploit to get past the guantlet:¬† when you start up the ramp towards Akil’zon’s area, have a hunter go behind your party and wait for the mobs that come up behind the party.¬† Have the Hunter distance himself from the main party & attack the mobs that come up behind you.¬† The Hunter can then Feign Death after engaging the mobs behind the raid group, and the mobs will reset!¬† They will not continue to come up behind the raid party¬†while you ascend¬†up the hills towards Akil’zon!¬† How nice indeed.¬†¬†¬†

Works without a hunter too.¬†¬† Make a rogue hit the rear approaching mobs with blind, then Vanish.¬† The mobs will reset and allow you unfettered access up the ramp to Akil’zon.

Drop:

Halazzi

Overall, I tried to smash the Corrupted Lightning Totems from Halazzi & I died during the fight (89% dps time), so my damage output suffered a bit.  Killing the Lynx when the avatar splits seemed to work heaps better than focusing on Halazzi the whole time.  My miss rate was at 12%.

Drop:

Zul’Aman snippets & General Gear Selection

wowscrnshot702.jpg

1st try in Zul’Aman with my guild.¬† I came late to the party, but they had 1-shotted the birdy boss,¬†bear boss gave troubles but¬†ended up with a dirt nap.¬† Lynx boss downed too.¬† Walked to the next event area with the raid only to find heaps of trouble and late night fatigue setting in.

Raiders:

  • Prot Warrior
  • Feral Druid¬† / then subbed in Prot Warrior
  • Holy Priest
  • Holy Paladin
  • Holy Paladin
  • Mage
  • Rogue / then subbed in Shaman (me!)
  • Hunter
  • Hunter
  • Warlock

My 5 player party: Hunter, Hunter, Warrior, Warlock & myself (blue players above are in my group).  So, my buffs were mostly for the hunters.  GoA, Strength totem and Mana Spring totem for the warlock in my party.  No rogues to kick, so I Earth Shocked the Troll mages when their castbars started to fill.

Earth Elemental I did pop Earth Elemental totem at one point and it did a fine job of holding a loose Troll.¬† I never saw if the healers were healing my Earth Elemental, but that could have helped too.¬† I was surprised how well little Rocky did considering the Trolls of Zul’Aman.¬†¬†¬†

Lots of places to Ghost Wolf around and¬†mount up for.¬† Sometimes, we’ll just all mount up and charge into a group so we can stun lock/slow the scouts¬†and therefore stop them from calling for backup.¬† Troll adds¬†are almost as bad as Murlocs.

 wowsc114.jpg

Troll Scouts – The troll scouts run better than murlocs with an¬†iritable¬†bladder!¬† Don’t let them run to bang on the drums.¬† The¬†drums summon more trolls to beat you down with.¬† Ouch wipe fest!¬† Frawst-Shawk works pretty well on the troll scouts, but beware of any adds the scout summons because any dps on the scout will bring the adds to you!¬† Better to have a warrior charge/hammy the scout as well as hunter concussion shot the scout too.¬† Mages trying to slow the scout will end up with heaps of unwanted aggro when adds come in.

wowscrnshot_112007_005916.jpg

Spell Steal One nifty trick our mage Druex found out is that the troll fire-mages throw up a buff on themselves for instant casting.  Yes, you guessed it.  Druex the mage stole that buff and made it his own.  Instant casting mage spells are sooooo nifty.

wowscrc.jpg

Overall, ZA is about Crowd Control and swift execution.

Drops tonight were:

Pauldrons of Primal Fury

Spaulders of the Advocate

I’d love to post some stats and wws data, but I will get more next time.

To Brageth (fellow enhancement shaman) who wanted to know what to start out with gear wise pre-raiding:

Gear Selection for Enhancement Shamans:

Try http://www.lootzor.com/index.php?c=7&l=70&b=0&s=-1&r=7&g=3&i=10&z=5&p=beu2hbfu1.8hecu2hedu1.4heeu1

Lootzor lets you compile lists of gear based on certain stat requirements the above link is from the Elitest Jerks thread and use stats from that assuming you will have Blessing of Kings (so 10 Str is better than 20 Attack Power).

Same as above but changes to ‘Low Raid’ gear, no idea what your gear is like but if the first link isn’t for you this one might be of more help:¬† http://www.lootzor.com/index.php?c=7&l=70&b=0&s=-1&r=7&g=3&i=10&z=3&p=beu2hbfu1.8hecu2hedu1.4heeu1¬† (Oh and ignore the weapons and armor, they’re only based on Stats and not dps)
